Suggestions for Visualising Physical Hyperlinks
نویسنده
چکیده
Physical browsing is a tag-based and mobile device-centric interaction paradigm for ambient intelligence settings. It is a means of associating physical objects and their related digital information by creating physical hyperlinks. The tags, or physical hyperlinks from the user’s point of view, have to be visualised to tell the user of the existence and location of the links, how they can be selected and what action they contain. Based on link visualisation in desktop WWW, we present the problem domain, some suggestions for visualising links in ambient intelligence settings, and example visualisation designs to illustrate our ideas.

Programming in several dimensions
Writing a program to solve a problem is a process that can be divided into two phases: first, we invent a mental model of the solution; secondly, we map the mental model onto a physical representation. The mental model is multidimensional and syntax-free; in today’s textual programming languages, the physical representation is singledimensional and syntax-burdened. In fact, it hasn’t changed gr...
متن کاملChoosing and Reading Online News: How Available Choice Affects Cognitive Processing
A within-subjects experiment explored how the number of online, hyperlinked stories available for individuals to choose from affects cognitive processing of a selected story. Participants chose and read unpleasant online news stories from a Web page containing either 5 or 15 headline/photo hyperlinks. Heart rate data indicated more cognitive resources were allocated to reading stories selected ...
متن کاملA review of the development and application of the Web impact factor
Since 1996, hyperlinks have been studied extensively by applying existing bibliometric methods. The Web impact factor (WIF), for example, is the online counterpart of the journal impact factor. This paper reviews how this linkbased metric has been developed, enhanced and applied. Not only has the metric itself undergone improvement but also the relevant data collection techniques have been enha...
متن کاملA Virtual Reality Topology Tool for Maintaining Web-sites
We present a Virtual Reality tool for interacting with a web-site, visualising its structure rather than the contents of individual pages. This tool recursively parses interlinked pages located on a given server (to some user specified depth), dynamically generating a 3D representation of the sites structure. Internet icons represent pages conforming to various protocols (http: mailto etc.) vis...
متن کاملA Computer-Supported Methodology for Recording and Visualising Visitor Behaviour in Museums
Developing user modelling and personalisation techniques for museums requires datasets about visitor behaviour in the physical museum space (i. e., visitor pathways). Advancing traditional paper-based tracking techniques, this demonstration presents a computer-supported methodology for (1) observationally recording visitors’ time-annotated pathways in physical museums, and (2) post-collection p...
